In recent weeks, social media has been flooded with claims that Pakistan will introduce redesigned currency notes in 2025. Videos and posts circulating on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp showed colorful images of polymer currency, especially fake designs of the Rs.100 and Rs.1,000 notes. Many users believed these images to be official previews of upcoming banknotes, causing widespread confusion about a supposed shift from paper to plastic money.

The edited pictures quickly gained traction, with some pages presenting them as leaked designs from the State Bank of Pakistan. The posts claimed that the country had decided to follow the trend of several other nations by adopting durable polymer notes starting next year. As the rumors spread, thousands of people continued sharing the false images, unaware that the designs had no official source.

However, the State Bank of Pakistan has clearly stated that it has not announced the introduction of any new currency notes for 2025. According to the central bank, the viral images are fabricated and have no connection to any official plan. The SBP urged the public not to rely on unverified social media posts and emphasized that any major change to Pakistan's currency would be communicated through authentic channels such as official press releases, the bank’s website, and national media outlets.

The bank further clarified that the existing currency notes remain fully valid and there is no plan to replace them in the near future. Officials also encouraged people to avoid spreading misinformation that could cause unnecessary confusion among the public.

Experts believe the rapid spread of these fake currency designs highlights how easily misinformation can travel online, especially when presented with convincing visuals. Many of the shared images were created using digital editing tools to make them appear realistic. Similar hoaxes have surfaced in the past, targeting financial institutions and government policies in order to attract views and engagement on social media platforms.

For now, there is no indication that Pakistan will introduce new banknotes in 2025. The State Bank continues to advise citizens to verify information before sharing it and to rely only on official announcements regarding any changes to the country’s curren

cy system.
